FlexStream Corrections TV Revolutionizes Program Management in Colorado Prisons

The Problem:

The Colorado Department of Corrections needed a reliable solution to distribute program content securely across its internal television network, spanning ten correctional facilities statewide. The system had to support multiple media formats, allow for remote management by staff, and integrate seamlessly with existing infrastructure and devices. A scheduling feature for channel content was also essential.

Previous attempts to develop home-grown solutions were unreliable, presented connectivity issues, and required extensive staff support across a large geographic area. The Department needed a better solution – one that was secure, reliable, and affordable.

Goals & Challenges:

Colorado selected an enterprise Corrections TV solution from West Pond Enterprises that was strongly recommended by staff at the Colorado Women’s facility after they successfully demonstrated that it met all the department’s requirements.

With support from West Pond, DOC programming staff quickly installed the FlexStream all-in-one hardware system at each of the ten facilities and remotely set up a schedule that allowed multi-disciplinary programs to be delivered across existing DOC IP and coaxial TV networks, establishing a 16-hour program day at each facility.

West Pond’s FlexStream Cloud-based portal allows authorized staff to add and manage multiple high-definition TV channels at each facility via an easy-to-use web-based software. Now, with the click of a mouse, DOC staff can select content from a public library of corrections-focused materials, access third party subscription media such as movies or educational material and privately distribute their own content to multiple sites. Live-stream feeds of religious or therapeutic programming can also be scheduled on the newly created digital Corrections TV channel.
