The HY Secure Media Gateway transforms correctional television from a simple utility into a centrally managed communications platform.

Designed specifically for jails and prisons, the HY platform securely captures, controls, filters, and distributes television and media content across coax, IPTV, or hybrid networks — without the security risks associated with Smart TVs, unmanaged streaming devices, or open internet access.

These products were designed to offer corrections facilities an economical solution delivering conventional linear TV to the incarcerated, their visitors, or the facility staff.  Suitable for jails and prisons from 5 to 500+ TVs, the FlexStream HY solution is compatible with any consumer or commercial TV, does not require a set top box or second remote control, and utilizes pre-existing coaxial or IPTV wiring.  If centralized control of your TVs is important, then supplement the network with endpoint controllers to provide power, channel, and volume support of TVs. 

Consumer TV Technology Was Never Designed for Corrections

Modern entertainment delivery is rapidly shifting toward internet-connected streaming platforms and Smart TVs. While these technologies may work in residential or hospitality environments, they create significant operational and security concerns inside correctional facilities.

The HY Secure Media Gateway provides a controlled, policy-driven platform that allows facilities to:

Use the FlexStream HY to create a custom channel lineup from a mix of subscription free antenna channels, internally generated multimedia signage channels, and FlexStream media partner internet channels.  Include only the broadcast TV channels that you like, use the built in HTML templates to create information channels and special purpose channels.  Integrate channels and videos from our vast correctional focused library of free and subscription media.  Create a channel lineup appropriate for your facilities needs, with this one, easy to install, remotely managed FlexStream device. 

How It Works

Each media source can be preprocessed before it is transmitted for TV viewing.  Processing enables real time screen modifications such as overlaying an HTML presentation to add graphics, text and media to the channel or schedule events which can change the channels media source programmatically at any time.  The FlexStream HY Solution includes a number of HTML presentation templates which can be used to overlay a scrolling message, provide programming information, or to display a series of slide images.  The scheduling engine is often used to enforce compulsory viewing of an important video, to broadcast a classroom or chapel service, or to play a movie or sequence of videos.  The scheduling engine can even ensure that the required video is played for compulsory viewing on all channels.  

Control the TV

Adding endpoints such as the PL-50 (Ethernet) or DC-50 (coax) extends your TV distribution network beyond content delivery to include centralized television control.  Endpoint devices provide control of power, channel and volume through the centrally accessible user interface of the FlexStream HY.  If you need to enable local control of the TV,  replace the TV remote with our armored keypad that can be remotely enabled and disabled programmatically in concert with your programming content and TV controls. 

When selecting the right FlexStream HY unit for your facility you need to consider the TVs that will be receiving the signal.  When delivering the channels over a coax network, older TVs need special treatment and as such every channel must be encoded in the MPEG2 format.  The MX-550HY-30 can meet these requirements.  If delivering the channels via IPTV, using the PL-50, select the MX-550HY-IPTV for maximum flexibility.  See comparison charts below for further information.
